Minocycline reduced Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced neuroinflammation rat model

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was used to induce neuroinflammation in rats and the expression of brain cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is marker for process [1]. The effect minocycline on neuroinflammation-induced LPS not clearly elucidated.
 
 objective this study determine effects (MIN) LPS-induced COX-2 compared it with a clinically approved drug Alzheimer’s disease named memantine. A total fifty male Sprague Dawly were divided into five groups (n=10): (i) control, (ii) LPS, (iii) LPS-treated 25 mg/kg, (iv) 50 (v) memantine 10 mg/kg. Minocycline treatments administered intraperitoneally once daily 2 weeks (5 mg/kg) injected day 5. Immunohistochemistry Western blot protein performed measure its level hippocampus cortex. Results showed significantly increased cortex other (p<0.05). treatment, dependent dose, reduced (p<0.05) comparable (Figure 1).
